Zero to Hero: Day Nine
-
Hi all, great challenge yet again that led to unexpected places again!
I started out looking for new blogs to follow, particularly ones that are about photo credibility, and ended up with a completely different outcome (though I did follow another blog).
I wanted to be specific in my searching, to build up a network of people interested in photo credibility.
After exploring Tags, I used the Google search “keyword site: wordpress.com” idea (thanks @thistimethisspace!).
While looking through the blogs found using this method, I found a lot of great statements made about photo credibility, especially photo fakes, and published them as another page on my site (Our World, Our Say).
I want to see how photo credibility is viewed around the world, so I’m trying to find opinions from all over the globe! So far I have ONE country. : )

I learned one thing or another reading these blogs. If you’r interested which blogs, visit here…

Whew.
How is everyone doing?
I’d like to know what my fellow newbies think about the themes. I have changed my theme at least once a day since we started and I’m not sure what I like.
Old time bloggers are free to chime in, but I’m curious what my people like me with little experience are looking for when choosing their themes.

I’ll be honest. Since I joined this Zero to Hero thing, I have been getting in touch with a lot of different kinds of blogs out there… Which is awesome. But I think everybody has got the idea of going out there and interacting with more blogs. Doing the same challenge twice makes it a bit pointless… I wanted to write about each challenge as it comes but I can’t do that if the same challenge comes up twice… Just saying…

I went to the tag Freedom, which can mean so many different things, and had twenty people posting in six hours. I have a post on what I found, and another post on how I react to two particular posts, in more depth- for posting tomorrow, as I have already posted today.
However, I would still like people to look at Introducing Clare, my About page, to say what they think of it.

Desperado, I hear ya. I was thinking the same thing at first, but then both assignments — as others have stated — have led to new directions. Also, rather than trying to keep up with an actual post for each day, I recapped several days — hopefully tying it all together for a good read.

Hello
When we did this on day 4 I did general searches and had a great search.
Today I am doing specific searches – eg teaching piano. On many of my specific searches, only one blog came up which, given all the bloggers out there I am surprised at. Am I doing something wrong? I know I could broaden the search. But I just kind of thought ‘teaching piano’, writers [+my home town], perennial gardening would crop up in a search? This post has also got me thinking, despite doing lots of reading, that I am tagging and categorising posts all wrong.

@desperado, when there are tasks that repeat, it’e because (1) we think they’re really important for building your community and (2) they’re things we think you should be doing on a regular basis, so we want to help get you in the habit.
There’s certainly no need to write about each challenge as it comes if you’re not moved to — but I would suggest that the repetitive tasks are among the most critical.

On the search for “topics,” a few topics I hoped to find led to no results: I was hoping to find a blog about bridge (the card game).
However, “contract bridge” returned no results, and “bridge” had no card game results. I find that strange.

I have been following and reading some inspirational blogs / posts on daily basis. However, I still have hard time to find the blogs / posts which involve Chinese writing, and rich oriental cultures.
I am welcoming any leads.
Thanks,
Yan

@cogitoegomum, when you search in the WordPress.com Reader, what you’re actually searching is the tags people have given their posts, not all the words in their published pieces. So, unless the blogger has opted to use that specific tag — and there are many bloggers who tag their posts less-than optimally — there are lots of blogs that will fly under your rader. That’s why, when you do find a blog your like, looking through their commenters and blogroll can be so valuable.
For more on tagging posts, take a look at: http://learn.wordpress.com/get-connected/#usetags

Quick distantly related question – A few times I’ve had several people and/or start following my blog yet the “Stats” show 0 views and 0 visitors. Why does this happen? If somebody reads a blog in the Reader, does it show up in stats? If I see something I like when I’m scanning the reader should I view the original so the blogger knows they’ve had a visitor?
Quick statement more on subject – Like many above I have found the more I follow the harder time I have actually following them… I have also been spending way too much time reading. I have found many of the suggestions helpful, I just haven’t followed them enough yet…

Really enjoyed this challenge! I found some really cool blogs that I probably would not have found otherwise. Thanks!
Here’s what I found:
TheDailyPost/self-explanatory
adoretravel/travel blog (duh!)
NotaPunkRocker/life in general blog
Diaryofasmallbusinessstartup/again, self-explanatory
Treasureshoppemarketingtips/my favorite, treasure shoppes!
Girlycamping/camping for girls blog -
I’ve been doing some blog reading today – something I mainly find difficult to fit into my over-flowing daily schedule. One tag I found that is very productive for me, and that I thought might be worth sharing with everyone is “creativity”.
I was especially fascinated by this post :

When you add a link you have an option to add an Image Address.
When I add that it displays the image at the proportions of the image where I grabbed it from. There seems to be no option in the add new link menu to display this image at different specs.
The image I added was going outside my side bar & looked visually bad.I think if I want the image in the side bar I need to to an image widget – but then what is the purpose of the the image address in the add new link?

@thistimethisspace Thanks so much for the tip about searching Google with
keyword site:wordpress.com/to discover blogs to follow. Much more effective for “postal art” or “mailart” than searching tags from within the reader.
