Zero to Hero: Day Nineteen

A bold photo shot here, a little unrelated to the task though

    The Rare Dare

    Cheers :-)

Anniethinksabout — I just left you some love on your post, but I think the difference between the “text” post and the “image” post is more clearly seen on your front page… the “text” post shows basically the entire post, but the “image” post just shows the top image with a few lines of text…

    :>

Checking in so late, it’s early. I may have gone a little overboard on this one:

Zero To Hero Day 19: And Now For Something Completely Different

    Have a good morning, folks.

    @michelleweber

    Thank you for your reply

If someone wanted to do a post with the text around the picture that would also be format right? I wanted to do that but could not figure out how to do it.

Well, I haven’t commented for a few days but I have been very involved in all the daily challenges though not necessarily in the right order or in the way suggested.

I’ve looked at different types of posting, different formatting, new ways of looking at what I’m doing, etc. Whenever I look at themes or formatting, I somehow always come back to Choco, which isn’t as flexible as many others but I really like the way my posts look inside the faux leather compendium environment.

Today I created a Facebook fan page (just a skeleton really so far but as time goes on hopefully I’ll be able to grow it). I’ve been making more comments on others’ posts (though not as much as I’d like and will be doing over the next few days).

The latest news is that I have unexpectedly found I can use some of my posts in my research (not just as output but input as well)! Awesome. I’m usually all over the place so I’m always startled when I achieve any synergy like this.

    Onwards and upwards…

So for today’s task I wrote a blog a bit different to usual. Normally I tell a story with paragraphs of text punctuated by photos I’ve taken.

Today I wrote something which was very much about how I feel inside, and was very hard to capture with an image. Instead of leaving the blog text free, I added one of my life mottos onto a favourite photograph of a sunny park in Copenhagen I took last year, and posted that instead of simply writing it. So there is an image, but only one. The focus is the text. I also added a listography, which is new for me too.

Comments as to how this post works as compared to previous posts would be appreciated!

Loving looking at some of your blogs too!

The last two posts I’ve done on my blog have been a lot longer than usual (there was a lot to talk about!), and even splitting the original post into two didn’t make it any shorter! So I guess for me, the change has been writing lengthier posts. I’m not entirely sure I’m comfortable with it, but here’s the sequel to ‘Frankenstein’, Creature: ‘Frankenstein’, Creator.

Let me know if it’s too long. I personally think it is, but there was no real way of shortening it. Miller and Cumberbatch were too good!

I never used those options, well i did see them but was never sure what to do with it. So thank you for making me try! Sure i will try the others as well! I posted a quote that i think graps the essence of running and life. hope you’ll enjoy it

I posted a link to an article I found wonderful.

As good a service to my readers, and a lot less work: and a lot less satisfying. Yesterday a wonderful comments thread, today none.

It made me think about what I want from my blog.

I published a game sort of post a couple of days ago. Take a look while I write another one for Day 19.

    @sonyahlira

    That would be image alignment.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-alignment/.

You also have these options available when you’re inserting your photo. It’s in the attachment details on the right at the bottom. Some screens might not show it, which you would scroll down to see the options.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/.

And, if you already have the image in your post and want the text to wrap around the image, the section “Within Posts” shows how to do that.

Wow, I am a lot later than so many of you! But Itoo am trying a new format today–I’m trying to create a slideshow! Actually, after a couple hours of selecting pictures, captioning them, etc, I now have a slideshow inserted into my new post to be–nowindraft. It happens to be my granddaughter’s birthday today, so doing a slideshowof her life, she’s only two, conincides well for today! I’d like to put some music behind theslideshow! Feels ambitious to me! I’ve read support–I’ve actually just bought a space upgrade so I can download an audio file or something, but I can’t find–or can’t understand, how to put the music in my post so that it automatically plays withthe slide show? Anybody here know hw to do this? Got any words of wisdom or can you tell me a support page or five that deal directly with putting audio and slideshow together? Thanks so much, Helen

  • Unknown's avatar

@helenholshouser, slideshows are just ways to display images — you can’t add other effects to them, like music. If that’s something you’re interested in, there may be other services online that let you create something like that, and then embed it into your blog.

Glad to see everything trying new things, whether it’s a Post Format or just a post of a different length! Even if it’s not something you’ll do frequently, you can get great ideas from mixing things up (and you never know what will resonate with your readers).

okay! thanks, ! so I guess I’m about finished, withjust a bit to do. Michelle Weber, this continues to be an enlightening challenge for me! Thanks! Helen

OMG! Thanks to Zero to Hero Now, i know there something called “Format” in WordPress. After more than one year writing in WordPress and Nineteen days following Zero to hero. I just realized “format”. The uninteresting multiple choice bar in the right side of your “create new blog post” window that can make your blog post more eye catchy!
Format is really interesting. You should experiment with it before post a new blog post. Thank You Michelle Weber…thank You Zero to hero and WordPress :-)
I really glad because today, I learn new thing ,hehehe

    Hello,

@timethief or anyone, I am totally lost on this and obviously doing something wrong. I am trying to use the post formats which do appear when I go to create a new post. I make sure the circle is blue next to for instance gallery and then I upload four pictures on to the post. I assumed that they would automatically set up or some grid would come up for me to put them on, but they look just the same as if I just had the post format on normal? What am I doing wrong please? I am trying it on a test page at the moment

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t believe my theme supports post format. That being said, I did change the layout of my post by making it more about the images than the words themselves.
Let me know what you think.

Though my current theme doesn’t support post formats, I uploaded an image which I wanted to do since long. Yeayyy :)

    I have uploaded a video :)

It took me a while to figure out the video URL as I found the video at http://www.upworthy.com but the URL address was actually on YouTube.

    And this is my post.
