Zero to Hero: Day Ten

    Done :)
    I am looking for a theme that would support my existing theme’s features which is ‘Shine on’, but has a right sidebar instead of a bottom one. Any suggestions?

    I added the tagcloud widget. Its just great. Here is my new blogpost http://wp.me/p4bXnt-15

    Well, OBM has already undergone a ton of widget rotations. I decided that we would re-add the Freebies one.

    Since I couldn’t come up with a lot to say; I decided to do a segment on my cooking for your reading pleasure. Bon Appetite.

    Hello everyone, I just reorganized my sidebar a few days ago to streamline it, but for today’s task I tried adding “blogs I follow” widget. I also experimented with “gravatar” widget. . . . and did a very short post on The Daily Post prompt (“fast-forward”). Looks great! Thanks for the motivational article and forum posts! – Theresa (TJ)

    @vegasesundance, very funny! But if it were a cross between a midget and a witch, I’d call it a midch.

    Also people, as for a short little post that the Daily Post suggested, I took to writing a chat that happened yesterday–it was between me and Siri; you can check it out here.

    What’s the difference between the link widget (talked about on the blog roll pages), and the blogs I follow widget? The ‘blogs I follow’ widget is what I thought the ‘blog roll’ widget would be i.e. it randomly shows 5 blogs I follow. The blog roll widget is a list to 5 different pages of the wordpress site (which l like very much !! But what of other sites?)

    Also, my side bar is now really cluttered. Can I have different widgets on different pages (currently, they seem to be automatically showing on Home page and about page). Id like to move some of my badges to another page.

    Thank you

    Happy weekend everyone! Another great challenge even though I’ve had widgets since day one. I did however, add a “gravatar” widget, a WordPress “Follow Linking Loops” widget and a “Zero to Hero” widget. I be lookin’ good!

    @lunacooler
    Hmm you’re probably right. I bet the inventor’s faces are red. Unfortunately nobody consulted us when naming the widget. If they had then we could’ve cleared this whole thing up and saved them a whole load of embarrassment. Hey check out what else I learned about widgets today as I wrote a small (midget) post about it as requested for Zero to Hero.

    @vegasesundance, different blog sites call widgets different things. At Blogger they call widgets gadgets. Are you a new blogger?

    @pkanwar, glad you figured out your issue! Please give us a little time to respond, especially on the weekend — don’t worry, we *are* reading, promise!

    @cogitoergomom, a blogroll can display any site you want, not just WordPress.com blogs. Feel free to play with it now, or wait for blogroll day to come around in Zero to Hero :)

    @michelleweber, what are you talking about? I didn’t ask that question.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have one question, I know it doesn’t pertain to the widgets, but I don’t know where else to ask this question. How do I get the pingback addresses to show up where I can choose as I’m making my post? It use to suggest sites so I could ping to them when I first started and I don’t know what I have done because they don’t come up anymore. I liked having the choices to ping to other sites.
    I really am enjoying the widgets a lot and I think they complete my site. They look really good to me. I hope everyone else had fun on this project.

    I still need to add an image widget, but I added a top post/pages widget and posted. http://nextpagenewchapter.com/2014/01/11/shorts/

    Have been having fun looking at the various widgets available and decided to add two new ones – my top posts and gravatar. Am aware that it can all get a bit cluttered (as others have said) but it certainly does personalise the whole thing. I didn’t do a post about this issue but as it’s my 34th wedding anniversary today I did a post yesterday on marriage and the commitment required to last 34 years! Feel free to have a look, I have also added some embarrassing photos from 1980 and used other skills we have learnt so far! Learning loads thanks.

    I went to @lunacooler site and I have to say this…

    Humor is very good. It is worth reading.

    Widgets have always made me nervous. I don’t know why. I guess I have to admit that I only recently found out what a widget is. Now that I ha effing out, I can’t stop trying them out. For today’s challenge I added about three or four. Yep, I got carried away. Hahahaha. Go see for yourself

    I glad this one came up. I hadn’t released how customisable some of these widget are. I really do not like too much clutter on the side bar as I find it a distraction myself. But I see the importance of some things. As my blog is still very new I not sure what will work & will not so I will play on this one every few months. Other than that I need to spend some of this time learning about blogging & actually blog!

    Thanks for the tips on adding widgets.

    @lunacooler, sorry about that! Edited my comment.

    @kumbricia, not totally sure that you mean — a pingback is created when you insert a link to another site in a post or page. You wouldn’t ping other sites unless you’re mentioning them in a post. Can you say a little more about what you’ve been doing, and what’s not working any more?

    @debz, congrats! 34 years — wonderful!
