@timethief
OK I checked out the link in ur prev comment…thanks for leading to a nice website tool! -
@birgerbird
You cannot hide that “author byline” and gravatar display without a custom design upgrade. See here for details on the annually renewable custom and CSS editing:

@birgerbird do you mean the image on your home page, only on the first post? As far as I’m away it’s something from your theme. You could try and look under “theme options” to see if you can change it, otherwise I don’t know if you can
-
Giving a big kudos to @timethief! I just experienced the highest traffic in an hour since I started blogging. Changing things up a few notches really made a difference.
Thank you! -
@vegasesundance
I saw that michelleweber politely asked you to quit using these threads for post promotion purposes. You may post into zero to hero threads here only for help. However, you are clearly posting for blog post promotion purposes again and that means you are ignoring ignored Staff’s request that you stop which is not wise. Why? because Staff can disable your ability to post here at all. It’s in your best interest to listen to michelleweber and stop it now. -
I feel like such an idiot! I am having a terrible time installing a blogroll or widget I am happy with! I have read the instructions–so at first I simply added a widget- blogs I follow. The problem is it showed no categories, and the blogs I really liked weren’t even on the list ! Hmm, I tried editing , but got nowhere , so I deleted it! Read the blogroll directions, but I feel like I am reading French, LOL, think I’ll go take a nap and try again later! I am a very inept techie person! Wish my granchildren were here! I would like to display the blogs I like so much, show my appreciation and value of them, in categories I guess as I like different ones. Any suggestions would be welcome–otherwise, I’ll muddle through. I may have to do like someone earlier memtioned , and just put links in the body of my work as often as possible!

@easygoingmama
Well the *LinkingLoopsLady* ….(sorry it’s got stuck in my head…kind off)…is definitely getting linked! I like the look of the blog btw…are you planning on adding more widgets? -
@helenholshouser maybe you could make a page and write them in a list there until you figure out the widget? I put mine in my about page as I didn’t really want it as a widget: http://thevioletkey.wordpress.com/about/
-
@helenholshouser
I had some initial trouble too…then I realised I had not done step 1….. please read what @michelleweber posted again..Here are the basics for creating a blogroll on WordPress.com blogs:
1. Adding your chosen sites in the “Links” tab in your dashboard.
2. Heading to Appearance → Widgets and dragging the “Links” widget into your sidebar or footer.Have you added your chosen sites in the Links tab in your dashboard?
-
@pkanwar1983
Actually I had quite a few widgets but took advice from @timethief and removed them. Apparently it slows down the loading time of your blog and I tested it myself and it’s working much faster. I’ve always preferred
a clean simple look. This is only my preference -:)
I’m sure I’ll add one or two more eventually. -
-
I thought I had a blogrole, but it turns out it was just a list of blogs that I have read and liked. Totally learned something new today… Blogrole mission complete…follow the arrows!
-
I just love my theme but wish if i could add a left side bar to it. Presently it only has a right side bar. http://sanchitahobby.wordpress.com/

@timethief
Ah actually I was looking for feedback on wether a page with websites and blogs you like is better than a blog roll with blogs and websites you like. The link was put there to make it easier for helpful bloggers to get to the page without me having to type tedious directions through my blog.Sorry if I offended or offenced. It was not my intention to go against staff orders.
P.s. thank you for the info on blog awards. It turned out to be very helpful.
-
@easygoingmama, I’m so glad to hear it!
@ediblereflections, another option, and one that I quite like, as the rotating mini-blogroll — pick 3-5 blogs you love, and swap them out each week or two (or each month). To really highlight them, you can include some teaser text, or even the blog’s logo.
@psychoticincognito, I think you’re right that a blogroll plopped at the bottom of a long sidebar goes largely ignored. Other than that, though, it depends on the theme. In some themes, the footer is quite engaging and could be a good place; in others, it gets ignored.

@easygoingmama and pkanwar1983
Instead of a creating a blogroll and using the Links widget, you can create a Links page like michelleweber mentioned above.option 1 blogroll & links widget
http://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/links-widget/option 2 Links page
It’s easy to do. You create a static page and add links to it.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/This is the guide for creating links in posts and pages: http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/
This is the general link model:
Highlighted anchor text here ie. name of blog you want to link to
This is the visual result – it’s not actually linked here in the forum.
Highlighted anchor text here ie. name of blog you want to link to1. Enter the anchor text you want to link to first.
2. Then use your mouse to highlight that anchor text. (If you don’t highlight the anchor text the chain icon will remain grayed out and not be useable.)
3. Next click the chain icon in the editor and proceed to create the link.P.S. Suffice to say my Links are on a static Page for more than one reason.

thank you for the info on blog awards. It turned out to be very helpful.
You’re welcome and I’m not at all offended. Being offended is a choice we control as individuals and I don’t choose to go there.
Ah actually I was looking for feedback on wether a page with websites and blogs you like is better than a blog roll with blogs and websites you like.
I prefer using a Links page because it does not slow by page loading time down the way a Blogroll does. It creates a cleaner blog and I am a minimalist. Another reason that has to do with what happens re: pagerank when one chooses to have their front page load a whack of links to other blogs in a blogroll every time their blog is viewed.
