Zero to Hero: Day Thirteen

The Links Widget displays a list of links (also known as a blogroll) in your sidebar. If you want to recommend related site to your followers, this is the widget that will display a blogroll you create in your dashboard.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/links-widget/The Blogs I Follow Widget allows you to list some of the blogs that you are following via the WordPress.com Reader in your sidebar. You can show your list as either a simple text list, or as a grid of images.

Added websites relevant to my subject matter. Also found out I am 50% faster/slower than others. I will begin working on that tomorrow.

Didn’t created blogroll. I’m happy with my blogs-I-follow option. And I have written post on that subject too. So if you are interested in seeing which Blogs-I-follow-and-love, you know where to click..

@timethief…..thank you for the tips to reduce page load.
I sure have a ton of posts to add the more tag to. But glad to do it so that it cleans up my blog.

Looking forward to doing this, but want to understand more about pages first. My sidebar is starting to look really cluttered!
-
@cogitoergomum, we definitely don’t want that! A page may be the way to go.
Looking at your sidebar, you’ve got several badges — you might condense those into one widget, and put the at the bottom, since they’re least helpful to readers. Also, you’ve got a large tag cloud — think about using categories, and then using the Category widget to help folks navigate. That displays as a drop-down menu, which is cleaner.

@timethief regarding the number of posts appearing on the front page
2. Reduce the number of posts appearing on the front page here > Settings > Reading
Blog pages show at most _ postsI have mine set to 3 and all posts are still showing (I did save the changes and refreshed my page). Do I need to change another setting? thanks!

@michelleweber and @thistimethisplace thank you for explaining the difference between blog roll and blogs I follow. I understand the difference now!

@michelleweber
I cannot access Day 14 as when I click on the forum link, it keeps saying….page cannot display, bad link. -
A year on WP and I didn’t know about the “more” feature. Now I am going back and editing all my posts and rearranging my format again. Thanks for the information!
(I’ve been a bad Zero to Hero participant, but promise to reform now with this new found knowledge)

Just found this very cool challenge series and I am trying to figure out how to apply it all to my blog since it’s really a webcomic. Any ideas? http://www.thelegendoftheforgottenisle.wordpress.com

So glad this for this assignment… It still took me awhile, because I let myself get sidetracked experimenting with too many options. But it was a nice breather!
@timethief, thanks for pointing out http://tools.pingdom.com as a way to check site performance. My blog rates as faster than 74% of all tested websites. I’m not sure how good/bad that is overall. I may go back and try some of your helpful suggestions on speeding up load time. Thanks for all the tips you’ve been posting in the Zero to Hero forums!

re: My blog rates as faster than 74% of all tested websites.
That’s good and you’re welcome. :) -

i need to add the blogroll to a separate page but my template doesn’t support this, is their any automatic way to do this other than posting each link manually?
