Many thanks its a frustratingly small thing – and the learning curve is big!
You are a great help and have noticed how active you are with assistance. I hope you feel the appreciation for what you do. I would greatly value a 30 second view of my blog and feedback of your initial impression. Im only 30 days into blogging and wordpress.
Cheers Jenn -
This is an eye-opener. I’ve been trying to share another hobby, painting, on my blog but wasn’t sure how to do it, mine being a fooden blog (food + garden). But these creative and inspiring bloggers just showed me how. I’ll be busy creating my own customized image/text widgets. Zero to Hero, you didn’t disappoint! And thank you, timethief, for encouraging me to join. :-)

Thanks for the kind words bout my efforts to provide volunteer support. My reward is reading folks say thank you. :)Your blog looks very clean and professional and loads quickly because there is no tat. I like it exactly the way it is.

@thistimethisspace you are a legend. I just need that bit of encouragement. I felt too new to launch it, now I just need to put energy into content, posting each week and work out how to get traffic.
Thanks again -
On some of the more visited blogs, I’ve noticed bloggers include some sort of text widget covering copyright & legality (essentially saying that the content is theirs unless otherwise noted and not to take it).
Now, I took a media law class and have very little recollection of the copyright and legal stuff on blogs. Can anyone talk to the merits of having a little widget for that kind of stuff? Is it worth it to put it up? Can just anyone put that onto their blog?

Best wishes Jennifer. :)and work out how to get traffic
In this challenge there are many bloggers who have blogs that lack a defined niche. They are blogging for the sake of blogging and that`s cool. In this challenge bloggers who do not have blogs with related content have been backlinking to each others blogs and blogrolling each others blogs.
Understand that I do not support that approach for your blog. Your blog is a professional blog. You need to identify your audience and social network where they are. You need to backlink only to high quality directly related posts in similar content blogs that have high authority in the niche and a good pagerank. In your case do not create a blogroll of links to other blogs. Create a Page if you must and post links only to relevant resources sites with high quality directly related content. See this example of a Resources page http://swrightboucher.wordpress.com/resources/

So, I’m still back on day 8 – working my way slowly but surely. I have a question and am looking for advice on my “about” page. When I started the blog, before I knew Zero to Hero existed, I wrote a “Getting Started” post. Basically, an about post. So, I copied that post into my official about page and added some photos. (The advice part of this is – if you get a chance to look at it, do I need to add or change anything?) My question is, should I remove the original post? If I do, the comments will be removed, too, right? Is there a way to move them to the about page?

@timethief and @MichelleWeber
I think you are both right about those image widgets. They are quite large and my theme adds extra white space around each image so they do look like they are floating.I changed to putting all three icons in one image and linking it to the “connect with me page” I created for one of the Zero-to-Hero challenges.
Unfortunately, the Expound theme adds a lot of white space around the images and the three badges I have left still look like planets floating in space. I think it’s a little better.

Today I noticed that different headers can be shown on different pages in a random order.
It is interesting and fun!

@jennifergrainger, engaging with others within your bloggy sphere is the best way to get started. So if you’re working through Zero to Hero, you’re on the right track.
@birgerbird, really cute!
@angiechristina, great to hear! That’s exactly the kind of customization we were hoping for — something that you love, and helps you get unstuck with a blog issue. Nice!
@jillianmartin, anyone can put one up, though they’re more a warning that a legally binding statement. Many bloggers include a Creative Commons license in theirs — there are six different license, for different levels of share-ability (or not!).
The CC licenses, if you’re interested: http://creativecommons.org/choose/
If someone is ripping off your content, you can report them to us, whether or not you have a widget.
@simmerdown2004, just leave the post where it is. You can’t move to comments, and there’s nothing wrong with having it there. From now on, most people will just see your About page, and that post will just be part of your archives — not a big deal.

Wow, it’s interesting to see what you all are up to! A lot of inspiration here. I too was fiddling with my header and I’m still unhappy with it. But I also switched to a two-column layout and I like it a lot. Still, I wonder what you as readers think about the two columns, aren’t they too intimidating? Or maybe cluttered? I couldn’t tell, I see the blog every day, so I don’t have the fresh eyes needed to judge it!

There was someone’s blog that I saw in my wanderings that had a quote beneath his header image which he said he would change from time to time; the problem was the color of the quote against the background color of the header made it impossible to read. I did not point this out to him however as I have never “met” him (in the blogasphere) before so he wouldn’t know who the heck I was to offer such critique.
On the other hand, I love the header over at Living with Shadows with its menu widget thingy that opens to reveal her blog roll and posts; and I’ve left her a love note to that effect.

@jenniferjgrainger you remind me of me–very slow at the learning curve, but whenyou get it its great! looking frward to visiting your blog!
@michelle weber and timethief thanks for all you do –your support and guidance have been invaluable!
everybody–I am so excited that the “custom detail” we were encouraged to place on our blogs yesterday lead to developing and further honing many new skills! I took the poster I’d decided to use, with credit to its source, and with my hubby’s help, turned it into an abstract shaped heart for heart of a Southern woman–to be my inspiration! I like it, hope you do to, but I’d be intereted in what you do think! Thanks, Helen

I know we looked at the about widget early on. I use my gravitar photo and blurb rather than the about me widget. Aside from being able to enable social media icons in the about me widget, are there other benefits in using the about me widget over the gravitar?
@birgerbird Thankyou :-)
