Zero to Hero: Day Twenty-Seven

@claidig, you can have your categories in a menu — if you head to Appearance –> Menus in your dashboard, you’ll see that one of the things you can drag to your menu is “categories.” You can choose some or all of them. For the archives, you can create links using the “link” option.
Here’s the menus/categories support documentation:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages@adshayah151, feel free to share what kinds of things you’d find interesting and what you feel like you haven’t learned, so we can improve for the next time.

staff-ozmodiar, can you take a look at @cogitoergomum’s question about G+? That’s beyond my Google+ know-how :)

Fellow zero to heroes. I need some help. Yesterday I couldn’t get a post published; it kept cutting off half of what I wrote. Finally, I copied and pasted to a new post and it worked.
Well, I have been writing today’s assignment, and now I’m getting an unauthorized response to when I hit publish. What am I doing wrong? -
@suesa
Are you logging in directly to your own Admin page here http://shonthumb.wordpress.com/wp-admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog? Are you creating posts here on your own blog’s dashboard
http://shonthumb.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php rather than creating posts at http://wordpress.com/post/If you aren’t then I recommend creating posts on your own dashboard.
Are you running one of the browser versions found here http://browsehappy.com?
If you aren’t then upgrade please. -

Thank you for your quick responses. On the top right hand corner, my name comes up; it’s the place that asks me to sign out, which makes me think that I’m signed in. When I go to save draft, I don’t get a green check that confirms the save. when I hit publish, the red word unauthorized comes up on the upper left. I’ve published more than sixty blogs and I’ve never had this trouble and I thought I was doing the exact same thing as I’ve not the other times.

Timethief, thank you so much for those links. I basically copied and pasted my post. I have no idea where I messed up. But now I realized I didn’t do category or tags so I better go back in and clean that up.

I displayed a new Image widget for my blog. Since my blog uses the theme Pachyderm (which doesn’t support links to social networking sites. If it does, then it doesn’t support links to Tumblr) I made an icon similar to the Tumblr icon on PicMonkey and displayed that for the Image widget on my blog so readers can check out my Tumblr blog :)

@suesa
You’re welcome. :)I basically copied and pasted my post.
You need to be cautious and use the correct approach when copying and pasting from any document created in a word processor.
For example, Microsoft Word is a word processing program that’s not compliant with web standards. The result of copy and pasting from Microsoft Word into the Tiny MCE editor in WordPress blogs can be unexpected, and contain a lot of formatting code that’s not compliant unless you know how to use the built-in features in the Visual editor for using Word cleanly. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text
Go here and enable this > Settings > Writing
Formatting
_ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
“save changes”I recommend using an offline blog editor to post to your blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

I just published a post yesterday with no visuals. When I visited the Zero to Hero page this morning, I thought I’d re-visit my post and add an old picture from my sentimental chest of memories haha.
This is my Day 27; an updated post:
-
I finally got my 2nd page done today. It’s about mine and my husband’s story, since a lot of my posts involve him.

So today, I was finally successful in finishing the challenge from Day 3: write the post you had in mind when you started your blog. I wanted to write for one of the local parenting blog – and my submission was published today. Yay!
I also played around with blog rolls (finally). I’m not sure if I’m going to keep it or not, but I’ll leave it for a while and see how it “sits” with me.
Cheers!

Hi everyone, I can’t believe how soon this challenge will be over either! I have learned so much! I’ll never be able to thank you enough Michelle Weber and all! there is so much I want to do. I never did a blogroll, and i want to and will–but don’t have time today. But there is a fun post in my past tht I wuld enjoy redoing and bringing forward perhaps–I’m goiing to go look and work on it! Have a good day everyone! Helen

I wonder if someone can help me.
A poem I posted roundabout mid-month just will not display how I want it to and I can’t work out why. One of the stanzas mentions tumbling and I arranged 5 words over 3 lines in a stepped fashion (to visually represent tumbling words). But the words keep getting pushed from where I put them back to the left margin so they appear stacked instead of stepped. It doesn’t seem to matter how I edit it, the words are obeying someone else’s rules! Anyone know how I can fix this problem. Thank you in advance. x -
Hi
I am still searching for the perfect them for my blog. I like to post photos/galleries but also with text. My blog will be a travel blog, with focus on photos, but also text. And include informations on additional pages.
How do make a gallery? Or do you recommend making the gallery on flickr and then link to it?
I have no upgrade till today, but I am thinking on getting the design upgrade. Once purchased, can I play around with all the free themes?
I’d like to have my sidebar on the side (not at the bottom) or then display one post only and have the sidebar at the bottom. The pages should be shown on top or on the right side.
Any recommendations? Thank you a lot! -
Hi All,
So my ‘revisit’ was the layout of my posts. Generally I am freeform text, split up with photos. I post quite a lot of photos in most blogs, in a kind of photo-essay. I realised though maybe this makes the page load slow, and some of them just aren’t really good enough to warrant full size, so for my post today on bookstores in NYC, I decided to collage some photos together, so instead of my post having 15 photos, it has 9, three of which are collages (generated in picmonkey – thanks @michelleweber for that tip!). What do you all think? Is this a good way to go for posts with lots of photos? Do I use too many photos? I tend to think you can never have too many, but then I love photos!!
Also intend to revist the widget task and add some image widgets to my side bar, linking to my various categories of posts. Is this possible? Anyone tried this and got any tips for me?
Thanks all!
