Zero to Hero: Day Two
-
I’ve done title and tagline a while back already, but I thought I’d make a second about me page since yesterday:

Enjoy! :) -
Hello,
This is what I chose for my text widget here is the result.
Canada Immigration Road
Our daily life in Kelowna BC.
I chose this because we came here a few months ago and now everybody can follow our life here in Kelowna. Now the people now what my blog is about instead of only seeing my initials and my last name. So I am very happy with the help from zero to hero.

Wow, this has really made me think. I chose the name Rose Red Stories for my blog, with the tagline ‘life through rose-tinted glasses’ – Rose Red because I love this name, and ‘life through rose-tinted glasses’ because I wanted to be optimistic and funny. I only just realised how much I mixed my metaphors there, and colours (am I red, or pink?!). On searching I also realised that Stephen King’s story about a house called Rose Red dominates the results.
I’m now trying to think of a new name…here’s how my site looks now – I would be grateful for any feedback! -
i’m pretty happy with my title and tagline but just added a text widget to give a brief summary of what it’s about and invite peoples’ commentage… something i am hoping to see more of in 2014:

My blog title was a Filipino phrase of ‘I Am Ehm”. The taglines are my best insight to be share. Though the blog title it’s all about me the fact is I just want to share things out the value I’ve learned from my life to others. Specially for the persons who are just like me also. Loving it.

I am starting to work my way thru all this. I don’t yet understand how to make the text widget look the way I want it to. I see an example of someone who uses HTML to customize their text widget. How steep is this learning curve? Worth tackling?
Here’s where I am so far. It’s great to see everyone else’s efforts!

Well, I’m a few hours late, but I got assignment #2 done. I don’t know about everybody else, but I’m finding these assignments to be very helpful!

The easy way to use a text widget when you do not know how to code is to create a draft blog post first. You can work in the Visual editor to create your text and even include images. When you have everything the way you want it to be click to save the draft post and switch to the Text HTML editor.
Now copy all the code.
Next open a new Tab and go to > Appearance > Widgets and open a text widget up.
Then paste the code into it and click save and close. Ta da!
See here for all widgets > http://en.support.wordpress.com/category/widgets-sidebars/
For text widget use see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/ -

@detaoofnico You could add the google translate widget to a sidebar or the footer.
You can find plugins here.
http://wordpress.org/plugins/google translate that I am using on some client sites is here
http://wordpress.org/plugins/google-translator/ but it hasn’t been updated for a couple of yearsthere are dozens of translators available though.
http://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=google+translate -
@detaoofnico, I just went to your blog, using the Chrome browser that will translate for the reader. The translation is a little off but understandable. It’s about what a translator plugin would deliver. I’ve excerpted part of your about below:
“My name is Nico Veenkamp. Born in England, grew up in Drenthe and South Holland and now back in my home province.
In all the years I’ve been through a lot and learned in life. I found out that you can practice. Influence on little things The best thing is, like the Dao de Jing says, to bend like a reed in the wind. Hence the title of this blog.”

re: translation
We do not have FTP access and we bloggers cannot install any plugins, we cannot use Microsoft or Google translation widgets or any others, as they are JavaScript and it’s stripped out to preserve security on this multiuser blogging platform. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#javascriptHowever, I have translation on my WordPress.com blogs. There are two workarounds and you will find them here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/02/14/translation-widget-for-wordpress-com-blogs/
Note: You can copy and paste the code on my Translations page and then replace every occurrence of my blog’s URL in the code with your own blog’s URL. -
@detaoofnico very cool thanks! I’m so used to the flexibility of a hosted account that I forget the limitations. I’ll pass this on.

I hope I’m posting in the right spot. I have no idea what is going on! I just saw the challenge and wanted to jump on board. I’m new to wordpress so it took me all day just to get the theme, decide on a title, and put up my first post. I still need to add a subtitle, about section, and photo but that is going to have to wait because I’m done for the day.

I’m really liking this challenge! I’m restarting my blog and giving it an overhaul, so I came across this at the perfect time :).
I’ve been thinking about a name and tagline for the last couple days, and boy, this is hard! I’ve come up with something, but I’m not 100% happy yet. I’m leaving it for now, maybe I’ll get an better idea (am also open for suggestions). I’ve been changing the theme around a bit, and still might change it.
So here it is: regisrandomness.wordpress.com -
I already updated my About page. Please check it out:
http://misterbonesmalic.wordpress.com/about/I have a question though, are there certain Themes that do not allow widgets to appear? I cannot seem to find the widget I added on my blog page. Thank you for the replies
