ZIP Files will not download

My posts always contain a zip file with my projects contents. I have uploaded numerous zip files already, and they download perfectly. I cannot download a zip file I just uploaded.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

More info: I signed up for premium yesterday. By download I mean clicking the link on the post when viewing the site. All of my other download links work.

    Hey Matt,

I’m not even able to download the file from your library. I am wondering if the problem is with the file itself…or if it didn’t upload properly. Could you please remove it from your Media Library, re-upload it from your computer, and then attempt to add it to your post again?

Please let me know if this works, of if I need to do further testing for you. Many thanks!

Alright I tried some tests out.

The first test was creating the zip file on my laptop (Windows 7) and uploading from my laptop, which caused the original problem, and still is an issue.

The second test was on my desktop machine (Windows 7). I tried to upload the zip file created on my laptop, and this fails to download as well.

The third test was again on my desktop machine (Windows 7). I recreated the zip file in the same manner as I had before, and then uploaded. The file can be downloaded now successfully!

These tests make me wonder what is wrong with my laptop’s ability to make zip files that will successfully upload and be downloadable on WordPress. In both instances I select the files I want to zip in Windows 7, right-click, click send-to -> Compressed (zipped) Folder. I can read both zip files I created locally on both machines. Could it be that my laptop is not up-to-date for WordPress’s upload ability to function properly. The files created are exactly the same size down the the byte so I am sure it is not the files themselves, but rather my machine or WordPress.

Could you please point to the requirements for WordPress to run, so that I can update these utilities accordingly and retest my theory?

    Thank you.

    Hey Matt,

As long as you have the Premium or Business upgrade (which you do), you should be able to upload a zip file.

Here are our accepted file types:

I’ve run some tests on two machines, but cannot recreate the problem you were having, so I do suspect the issue is stemming from the laptop. Is your operating system and compression software completely up to date? That’s the main concern I have. If you have a secondary way to create compressed files on your laptop, could you give that a try as well?

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.
