Zuki Theme – a few functionality questions

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

I am thinking about purchasing the Zuki theme, but had a few questions.

    1. Can I embed video

    2. How much does the Jetpack costs? Whats the difference between the jet pack and wordpress’ customization option?

    3. Is there a limit to the number of categories and sub-categories?

    4. Will post content areas pull posts by sub-category and/or tags?

    5. Can I control the categories listed in the top header menu (magazine style). For example if I have 20 categories can I only show 5 in the menu?

    Thank you

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • 1. Yes, not just in Zuki but in any theme.

Please check Videos support document for more information.

    2. Jetpack is free but we don’t need it on WordPress.com. All the Jetpack features are already available on WordPress.com so we don’t need it on WordPress.com.

Jetpack is for self-hosted WordPress.org blogs so they too can enjoy the cool features of WordPress.com

If this sounds confusing, please first check the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org.

    3. No. Have as many categories as you please.

    4. No, unless it is the post content area of a category page.

    5. Yes, we can add only select categories to the menu. Please check Adding Category Pages section of the Menu support document.

Thank you Chaitanyamsv! Appreciate it this has been really helpful. I am going to buy this theme!

I have one more question, I am new to this so bare with me. Re: # 4

For example: I have a category titled : Spices and then a sub-category titled Warming Spices. In my post content area, I want to only have it show blog posts re: Warming Spices – will it do this? Or do I need to also create a category warming spices?

is there such a thing as sub-sub category?

Also, will post content areas pull tags?

    Thanks again!!

    Rumin

In addition to my questions above, I just purchase the them, but I am not sure if I need to go premium. For example I am not seeing how to set-up premium content on the front page.

Do i need to download a program inorder to set this up or can it all be done by the web?

    thank you

For example: I have a category titled : Spices and then a sub-category titled Warming Spices. In my post content area, I want to only have it show blog posts re: Warming Spices – will it do this?

Yes. All assigned categories of a post are created equal and do not have relationships unless and until you create them with a custom menu. Therefore, the category archive page titled “Warming Spices” will only include posts with this category.

is there such a thing as sub-sub category?

Yes. See the section of the Custom Menus support page titled Changing the Order & Creating Sub-Menus.

Also, will post content areas pull tags?

Yes. You can add tags to a custom menu to create tags archive pages. Or you can use display posts shortcode with a tag argument included. Example:

    [display-posts tag="zukiyaki" posts_per_page="-1" ]

This shortcode will display all posts with the tag “zukiyaki” up to the maximum of 100 allowed.

    Correction regarding my statement above:

Therefore, the category archive page titled “Warming Spices” will only include posts with this category.

I was referring to the archive page https://chitchaatchaiblog.wordpress.com/category/warming-spices/. It might not have a title. You can give any title to the link to it in your custom menu.

  • In addition to my questions above, I just purchase the them, but I am not sure if I need to go premium.

You can read what the Premium and Business plans include here:

    WordPress.com Plans [Redirects to Plans]

For example I am not seeing how to set-up premium content on the front page.

What do you mean by “premium content”?

Do i need to download a program inorder to set this up or can it all be done by the web?

You don’t need to download any programs, everything can be done through a web browser.

Thank you so much everyone! I really appreciate this help. I have purchased the design. And its working well so far – some bugs with chrome.

It looks like i may have to purchase the premium version as I cannot control the font size (too large and having issues with the main header menu showing up in chrome if i am not in full screen mode) and the colors.

But i am not sure if i should purchase custom design for $30 a year or the premium for $99. I want to be able to have the flexibility to change the design a bit. Like adding portfolios .

Also, i already own a domain if i upgrade to $99 do i need to still pay the mapping fee? It looks like this is a no based on this- but would like to confirm

  • I want to be able to have the flexibility to change the design a bit. Like adding portfolios .

You can add portfolios in any theme, without any upgrades. :-) Check out the support page to learn how: http://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/

Custom Design is no longer available as a standalone upgrade – it’s part of the Premium or Business plan.

If you already own your own domain, the mapping upgrade is included in the Premium plan – you wouldn’t need to pay extra for it.

I have purchased the design. And its working well so far – some bugs with chrome.

    Hi!
I bought Zuki theme and I love it. My question is this: the slider in the beginning doesn’t automatically slide. It has the arrows and you can manually click on them to get to another featured post, but it doesn’t do it automatically. What can I do to fix this?
    Thank you!
    Megan

  • @mcatwood

In most of the themes sliders wont scroll automatically. Unfortunately this is not something we can fix.

Got it. Thanks for the answer! At least it’s not something dumb I was doing. :)

Great! Since you’ve already purchased Zuki, feel free to ask additional questions in Zuki’s own forum:

    http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/zuki

Zuki’s developer will be glad to answer you directly there.

As chaitanyamsv mentioned, most sliders don’t have an option to auto-play, as that is generally a poor experience both in terms of usability and accessibility.

I’m going to close this thread now, but feel free to start a new one over in the Zuki support forum for any other questions. Thanks!
