  • Hi Lynette, the best place to start is by looking at the theme’s information pages, which walk you through how to set up Zuki:

    Showcase page
    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/zuki/

    Support page
    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/zuki/support/

After watching the video and following the setup guide, if you need further help, the theme developer would be glad to help you in Zuki’s own forum:

    @ startlivingconsciously,

The Featured Post Slider section of the Zuki theme guide says,

You can include up to 10 posts in a Featured Posts slider with big Featured Images at the top of your front page. You just need to set a tag under Appearance → Customizer → Featured Content and all posts with this tag will be included in the slider automatically.

What’s missing here are the recommended or minimum dimensions of featured images for various theme features. For this information, go to the Quick Specs section near the bottom of the guide, where you’ll find the following specs (all dimensions in pixels):

    2. The default featured post image width is 840.
    3. The featured images widths for posts in the Big Recent Posts widget is 1200 + a min. height of 600.
    4. Featured post images in the Featured Content Slider should be 1200×800.

Quick Spec #2, the first of the above specs, rather confusingly gives the width at which a featured image appears on any post. The fact that none of your featured images, presuming that you’ve uploaded some, appears in the recent posts section of the front page, together with the quick spec #2 information, suggests that 840 pixels might be the minimum width required in order for them to display there.

Quick Spec #4 applies to featured images in the post slider. The given dimensions suggest that featured images of less than 1200 pixels in width will likely not display in the post slider. I’m less certain that the suggested height of 800 pixels is necessary.

  • Lynnette – I think I found the problem.

    1) In the Customizer, you have a space in your featured tag:

    personal growth

Tags cannot have spaces, so this is the first issue.

    2) You have no tag slug that matches “personal growth” – even if you had added a dash between the two words in the Customizer, your slug is actually “personal-growth-2”

To fix, this, I’d suggest you do two things:

    1) Use a fresh tag in the Customizer, with no spaces. For example, try the word featured

    2) Add this new tag to the posts you’d like to use in the slider.

Let me know how this goes.

    @ kathrynwp,

Nice detective work. But aren’t her featured images too small? None are displaying with the front page post excerpts, though each of those I’ve check evidently has a small featured image attached to the post.

  • Lynette should definitely double-check that all her featured images on the posts she’d like in the slider meet the 1200×800 minimum.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I presumed she’d probably want the featured images to appear for the non-slider posts on the front page as well. Is the minimum width to display these 840 pixels? It’s hard to tell from the Zuki guide Quick Specs, as I’ve suggested above.

It’s not really “hard to tell,” but not clearly stated, and might easily be missed by those not particularly acquainted with the theme guides and the Quick Specs. The relevant specification says only, “The default featured post image width is 840.” From this, and by inspecting the size of featured images on the posts of the demo under “Latest Highlights,” and “Creative,” I inferred that the minimum is 840 pixels, in order to display a featured image on the front page.

    Kathryn,
i followed the steps you suggested and changed the “tags”, i also went into the blog post edit page, clicked on the image and changed the size to the 1200×800 requirement, hit update and also hit update on the blog post’s edit page and it’s STILL not showing on my main page.

as far as the BIG slider images go, i tried to change the images to the suggested 1200×800 requirement, but wordpress is not accepting the size change.

i am really getting frustrated with this. i spent 4+ hours yesterday trying to figure it out all the while my blog site looks ridiculous. i am REALLY not sure what i am doing wrong. i am following the steps listed on the Theme’s ‘how to’ ‘page and video. if there are other tips, rules, etc. they should really be stated. you can’t list steps and “A, B, & C” and then turn around and say it’s not working because you didn’t do steps “D, E & F”. those should have been included from the get go.

i also went into the blog post edit page, clicked on the image and changed the size to the 1200×800 requirement…

You can’t resolve the issue this way. The uploaded featured image must be 1200 pixels wide in order to appear in the post slider.

Sorry, my last post should have been addressed @ Lynette.

  • Unknown's avatar

    ok…

SO…. i decided maybe i should start from scratch. i looked for a new image for one of the blog post as a test. before adding it to the post i made sure i resized it.

in uploaded the picture to my wordpress gallery, inserted it into the blog post, made sure the tag “featured” was correct, etc. and hit ‘update’

STILL no photo on the front page.

Before UPLOADING the image you must make sure it’s the correct size. Try that.

    @musicdoc1

isn’t that what i did by changing the picture to 1200 x 800?? is there some other way of doing it that i am not understanding??

this is really becoming more drama filled that i wanted. i just wanted a nice looking blog page, that’s all.

i am seriously considering scraping the entire things and requesting a refund.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @raincoaster

yep, did that. started from scratch with a whole new image that i resized to 1200 x 800 before uploading and it still didn’t work.

Configurable themes are not for beginners; they are fiddly things, and the instructions that come with them are inadequate to walk most people through the setup painlessly.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @ Lynette,

I meant to say at least 1200 pixels wide.

STILL no photo on the front page.

Understand your frustration. But I’m sure that Happiness Engineer kathrynwp will be able to track down the cause of the issue and provide the corrective. I’m volunteer and so have no access to your administrative pages.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @ Lynette,

Where are you adding the featured images for posts?

  • Unknown's avatar

    @musicdoc1

thanks for trying to help figure it out. i really do want to get this resolved because i LOVE this theme. it’s the look i have been looking for.

    thanks again!
