There are two things you never do as a Southerner: (1) Speak - Doesn't matter what you say or how well you say it. With the accent people will always look at you crossed eyed and think "oh, that explains it." (2) Admit you're from anywhere south of the Mason-Dixon line. That invariably colors anything you say with the hue of unrepentant extremism and invalidates whatever opinion you may have. No, it's always best to do all your opinion-making online and when they do ask where you're from, just tell them it was so long ago you don't remember.
