Bio
The project's main purpose is to challenge South Africans to change - the way they live, the way they relate to the environment by 90% by the year 2030. The ‘90%’ is meant to signify a fundamental shift in lifestyle.
Our Vision
South Africans from all sectors of society doing their bit to save the planet, committed to changing the way they live by 90% by the year 2030.
Our Mission
To mobilise South Africans to reduce their impact on climate change by:
• daring to change the way they think and act
• cutting carbon and treading more lightly, responsibly and consciously on the earth
• lobbying law-makers, policy-makers and government officials to ensure that South Africa’s GHG emissions are dramatically reduced.
Given South Africa’s extremely high Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per capita and international climate change concerns, Project 90x2030 also aims to impact on the international climate negotiations agenda by engaging with existing partners of Misereor.
Our Activities
• Mitigation: Encouraging all South Africans to become more planet conscious and “do their bit” by voluntarily reducing their carbon emissions.
• Adaptation: Working with small-scale farmers to monitor weather changes, cultivate suitable crops and to improve water management (pilot project).
• Awareness-raising and advocacy: Providing easily-assimilated information to ordinary South Africans so that they can lobby for change to existing laws and policies governing the use of natural resources, with a strong focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy development, transport emissions reduction, sustainable waste management, and water conservation.
