Bio
Ana Vespera is a poet, author, artist, master teacher, and survivor of both a high control religion (cult) and domestic violence. She has been writing poetry and prose for as long as she has been able to hold a pencil, often stating that she thinks better with a pencil in her hand or a keyboard under her fingertips, and is now ready to share her work with the world. Her words are raw and awe inspiring, telling her stories with enough ambiguity and imagination to allow the reader to step into her shoes or see the same story in their own life. She believes that fewer words can at times tell a story better and that her story of survival should focus not on the explicit events but on her growth as a woman, a feminist, a teacher and mentor, and friend. She wants the story that is remembered to NOT be the details she lived through but instead to be that she LIVED. Ana writes under this pen name in order to help protect her identity from those who would wish to silence her, and she knows that for victims to become survivors, it is powerful to find hope in the path of those that came before, and for her, writing was the weapon she used to free herself.
