Bio
I started playing D&D in 1953, well before it was invented and a full 20 years before I was born. Kidding aside, my virgin voyage into the world of role-playing games did begin with Dungeons and Dragons in late 1982 (I was 9, almost 10). My friend and next-door neighbor, Chris, had gotten the purple "basic set" from his uncle.
Chris and I plodded through the rulebook digesting the list of spells and potions, the generation of the Morgan Ironwolf character, the death of the thief due to his failure to detect the poison-needle trap that was concealed in the catch of the locked chest. We fumbled through the creation of an Elf and a Fighter Character. "Caspen" and "Borg", respectively (Borg was used right out of the book to save time).
I was playing Caspen, the Elf. When I selected spells, I was sure to take "Sleep" as I was sure that "Magic Missle" was a stupid name for a spell. actually, I still don't like it that much. I remember being disappointed that my elf could only cast one spell each day.
Borg was just sort of tagging along as an NPC. Chris was the Dungeon Master. We fumbled rather badly with B2 Keep on the Borderlands.Caspen was almost immediately killed by kobolds in the caves (I had only rolled like 3 hps). That seemed kind of crappy, especially after so much work went into figuring out how to create him. We decided on a "do-over"; an institution that remains popular in street kickball and computer games to this day.
