Bio
Calliope is my muse. I've always aspired to write but found it necessary to have a day job in order to eat. Although I have worked as a news correspondent for a local newspaper, I eventually found it tedious and confining. I managed to obtain a liberal arts writing-intensive degree from Syracuse University in the most difficult way possible: working full time while going to school part time. It took me nine years but I finally graduated at the age of 53. But it was worth every minute, although now all I have to show for it monetarily is a student loan. I do have, however, priceless rewards otherwise and I would not have traded it for all the gold in the world.
I grew up and live in a small town in the middle of the Adirondack Mountains, a six-million acre New York State Forest Preserve that includes a mix of public and private land.
I started writing a book in 2005 about my elusive Aussie grandfather, whose homeland I visited in 2006. That particular muse has taken a leave of absence and insists that I go back to Australia in order to finish it. Definitely on my bucket list, and I can't wait to get back to that fascinating country. In the meantime, I got temporarily side-tracked in Maine (also fascinating), post "retirement", with a new job, a new man and a new adventure!
My new man and I became postal contractors and landed a gig in Downeast Maine. We started out with a four-year contract and ended up staying for eleven. Our job was delivering the mail by boat from Bass Harbor to Gotts Island. This blog is a chronicle of our roller coaster adventures in Acadia National Park, on Blue Hill Bay and sometimes the Gulf of Maine. It is written in sequence like a book but Wordpress lists entries from most recent backwards. So if you're just starting, go down the left side reference list to very last entry and begin there with Chapter 1.
Thanks for stopping in!
