Bio
Agne is a performer, artist, dancer, theatre practitioner and facilitator. The aim of this blog is to post workshops, rehearsals, sessions, discussions I am attending and having in order to work on my research question. My research question is what are they ways to unleash the boundaries between already established dance genres and a dance/dance practitioner searching for a its own style and technique. My personal journey begins with the struggle to define myself as a professional dancer in certain dance genre. That’s where I begin to search for some answers. Many dance techniques encourages dancers to embrace their talent and with the hard work to practice in their chosen dance genre. My problem was, that I never understood the series of rules and technique I had to follow where physically and emotionally I wasn’t happy and comfortable. The question is, can I be defined an unconventional professional dancer in my own style or dance technique?
Blending my passion for theatre and dance (street dance, hip-hop, Lithuanian Folk, contemporary), yoga, improvisational and interpretative dance styles, lead organically to establish my personal style and practice. My style starts from being responsive to an impulse. How our bodies create a harmony between the movement and an impulse. In relation to your bodies to rely on the specific sound which dictates its direction. The body movement tells the story in response to the melody. Not necessarily the lyrics if the melody has them. I am interested in the process of ‘making’. The process of ‘improvised’ and completely ‘authentic’ response to what you hear now and then. I don’t like to devise a dance piece in advance and show it hundreds of times. It is so magnificent when the piece is not being repeated, ever.
I’d like to suggest a freestyle dance improvisational class where you can enjoy finding new ways and your own way to devise a dance piece, or just embracing your body movement techniques.
My sessions develops body awareness and creative expression. These classes will exercise, refresh and relax you!
If you’re interested in participating in a long term devised choreography/performance, email me with your background and I’ll let you know about upcoming auditions.
