Bio
Allegra Sleep was born in Nicaragua just as things were heating up and ready to erupt into the Revolution. She was in her first group show at the American Embassy in Managua at age two. She lived in Central, and South America until a move brought her to Taos, New Mexico in 1989. Primarily self-taught, the artist grew up watching her mother paint. Allegra works in acrylics, and often uses bright primary colors, what she refers to as her "crayola colors". Her work frequently references scenes from childhood in Latin America, and old B&W family photographs. She is a Finalist in The Artist's Magazine's 2013 Art Competition, in the Abstract/Experimental category. Find her work at Taos Artisans Gallery, 107 Bent Street, Taos, New Mexico.
