Bio
For nearly twenty years I exercised my unique, out-of-the-box problem solving and planning skills in science-based programs in a large state bureaucracy. Aligning these three disparate approaches is certainly a challenge, but one I thrived on!
As communications lead for a large birth defects surveillance program, for developing and implementing effective external communication plans and programs for a variety of audiences, including advocacy groups, scientists, and the media. This also involved translating epidemiologic findings and highly technical, at times sensitive, information into formats accessible to the lay and professional public.
As a one-woman publications guru, my expertise grew to encompass everything from conceptualizing original research (primarily health and organizational behavior), to setting up electronic bibliographic management systems, to training colleagues on emerging scientific publication standards, to developing motivational health communication materials.
