Bio
I have always been curious about a lot things and have followed my nose along a very non-traditional path. I have a PhD in Near Eastern Studies from Berkeley, but have always had an interest in computer science. I taught introductory computer science at Berkeley and later at George Mason. I developed an interest in IT security and launched an undergraduate IT program at Mason. Shifting gears, I worked on a joint project between Mason and Smithsonian helping to develop academic programs in Environmental Conservation. I am now Director for the Center for Teaching and Learning at Shenandoah University where I can leverage all these myriad experiences to good advantage. I do faculty development and institutional assessment as well as advise on the adoption of new technologies. I'd describe myself as a "connector of the dots." This is a role I enjoy, because these intersections create opportunity for creativity.
