Bio
I am a lifelong political activist, community organizer, organization builder, and trouble-maker currently serving as a senior partner in the grassroots racial justice think tank ChangeLab.
I've worked for a lot of groups and causes. I have been a literacy teacher and a social worker, and I've been a political activist on issues like GLBT rights, progressive criminal justice reform, countering vigilante white supremacist hate groups, philanthropic reform, and environmental justice.
I grew up in a rural community in Hawaii. My high school career was just barely good enough finish, and I don't have a college degree.
So what qualifies me to write a blog about racism? The school of life.
I've lived with racism and organized against it my whole adult life, and along the way I've educated myself, reading publications, attending conferences, and mostly talking to the people I've worked with as a community organizer, listening to their stories, and bearing witness to their lives.
