Bio
Colleen Connolly, that’s me, is a writer, an IT professional and a mum.
The mum bit first, because they always do come first. I have three gorgeous children aged one, three and five who have helped me challenge my perceptions, speak simply, write simply and think simply, and form a deep appreciation for text that can be read-aloud again and again and again.
My day job is as a project manager which I have been doing for over 10 years. It pays the bills and I am very glad of that.
Since I could read I wanted to write. And when I could, I did. Over and over. There are lots of embarrassing stories I could share, lots of mis-spelled and badly crafted characters. But finally I found a story to tell. The story of Adam Keenan and his friends.
It is called The Preacher's Boy and I have been telling this story for the last ten years. Seriously, ten years.
I learned my craft with this young adult book. The Preacher’s Boy has had many iterations. It is one book when it should be ten. But it is not alone on my computer, oh no, The Preacher’s Girl and The Preachers’ War are there as well - the other two books in the trilogy are in place. Securing Adam’s fate and my own tightly to each page.
When I count the days of the last ten years I don’t wonder at what I spent them doing.
My writing, my family, my work, my home each in its own way has changed over that time and each is better for the telling and retelling – and let’s not forget the editing and rewriting.
