Bio
I grew up in New Jersey which is on the east coast of the United States and knew at a very early age that my passion was for art. I knew I could make something look good on paper or even by moving things around that I considered were nothing more than pieces of nothing. I could make something beautiful out of nothing.
I went to Art School in Newark, New Jersey and started working as a typographer in New York City. I've always bounced back and forth between fine art and graphic design as I believe they have certain similarities that are appealing to me.
I moved to the West coast, Los Angeles in 1971 and promptly started applying my skills to creating motion picture posters and ad campaigns for all the major studios as I was hired as an art director/designer for a design firm in Beverly Hills.
Some of the films I've designed posters for are "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest", "Jaws", many, many more including helping design the logo for "Star Wars" of which I still to this day have the original LP album of the music score from the film.
I joined a group of artists/designers in the late 80's and we worked during the day as commercial artists and when the sun set we would start painting into the late hours and did that day after day. We had a number of successful art shows and my work as well as all my fellow artists work sold well every time we had an event.
Our studio was in an old building on Lankershim blvd. in North Hollywood where we coined the area NoHo. They have since revived that name and today there are banners and signed designating that area as NoHo.
I've owned and operated my own design firm on and off for over 30 years and be fortunate enough to work alongside some very talented individuals on high and low profile projects.
I've been a Creative Director at NBC-TV in Burbank, California as well as lead a group of designers at Warner Bros. Studios and freelanced at Fox Broadcasting Company.
I am first and foremost a fine artist that has forever been setting it on the side lines to use graphic design as my main source of income. My first love has always been the purity of art itself and that is why it is fine.
