Bio
I am a former primary grade teacher and am now retired. I am interested in knowing how well 1st graders are now learning to read. Do they start in the basal reader? Are there many "readiness to read" classes in 1st grade? Are they learning the alphabet letters and their sounds first? Are there unique approaches? I would like teachers across the U.S.A. to post their responses to my blog. I am hoping teachers will be interested in knowing how well 1st graders are succeeding in reading across our country.
