Bio
My work is derived from a spiritual sense, i paint realities we can’t see, that may not exist except in our private hopes and fears for what happens to us the exact moment we die… in other words I paint landscapes which hide beyond sight. In this blog I imagine people and there lives and talk to them, reflecting on the life they’re leaving behind and the one they are about to enter, and present them with the landscape in front of them, the painting itself. The mystery, the exotic and colourful crossing from life to death, through the tunnels and over the horizons we view the journeys’ from our physical to our metaphysical. My paintings though are life affirming, quite idealistic and from the romantic tradition of Casper David Friedrich along side which are the teachings of Hans Hoffman, he above most others has shaped my practice, his believe in the artist sensing the invisible and painting it has been the bed-rock of my work. Also being born in Scotland where on one side are the mountains and on the other rivers, canals and the forth that lead into the oceans. These landscapes of natural forces and elements have a bigger influence on my work than I had previously thought.
