Bio
Bertiste Garrett is a wordsmith who has crafted her voice via short story, novel, essay, and poetry. She writes lyric poems that address such themes as love, confusion, repentance, angst, hope, death, and eternal life, among other subjects. Her poems are written in rhythmic rhymes, and sometimes, Garrett traverses to write in free verse. The writer’s lyrics are often compelling in the way she allows readers to see the ordinary from a fresh and awe-inspiring perspective.
Garrett’s adventures with words have prompted her pen to write along different paths. Lately, she has begun to write for children, burgeoning teens, and young adults. Having worked with small children (in addition to her own), the writer is passionate about making sure children have wonderful learning experiences. Her Christmas Alphabet Series is the outcome of writing a fun book series for children as they celebrate one of people’s favorite holidays of the year. For the older set, youngsters will be intrigued by Garrett’s Pirate Series, based on the antics of Halloween. Understanding the pain of grief, she has penned When Sadness Calls, a grief recovery manual in verse.
When Garrett is not hitched to her 20-mule team pen, paper, dictionary, thesaurus, computer, and others of her writing paraphernalia, she is busy in her role as wife and mother of three. Despite her hectic schedule, she carves out time to participate in worthwhile activities that prune her as a writer—workshops, seminars, programs, open-mic forums and other performances.
