Bio
I've retired from teaching art and am now concentrating on making it. As a teacher I was able to set up my own post-retirement pedagogical plan, aimed at the revival of rusty skills, particularly foundational drawing skills, and so have been focusing over the last year on drawing in charcoal.
Artists whose drawing I admire run from the great names of the Renaissance to some of its lesser lights, like Fiorentino, and del Sarto; to Baroque masters like Rembrandt, Rubens, Tiepolo and Watteau; to later masters like Lautrec and Degas; to moderns like Kollwitz and Schiele; and to late modern and contemporary artists like Rico Lebrun, Sangram Majumdar and Bruce Samuelson.
Currently I am making a gradual transition from pure charcoal to combinations of charcoal and pastel. Oils and watercolours are waiting in the wings, but their time will come.
