Bio
eastern europ/mongolian decent, first gen. American (mom from Poland/Siberia. I grew up in a small immigrant blue collar factory town in CT. Always loved school ... and dogs!! Because I tested w high IQ (just luck) and received scholarships to colleges, my Polish Catholic mom said that these were signs from God that I should become a doctor - or it would be a sin. I wanted to become a dog behaviorist or zoologist. I applied to only one med school ... and got in ... on mom's birthday. So I am a physician (MD) trained in internal med and cardiology. Through the years I continued to rescue dogs from shelters and groups, and read as much as I could about training and behavior. Well, mom passed in '07 - youngish, from a bizarre ds. I did not leave medicine immediately - I LOVED my patients and treated them like family - spending 30 or more mins per visit, pissing off the docs that owned the practice. I was salaried so I billed the physicians that owed the practice, not the patients! I worked in free clinics and Bellevue ER on Saturday nights - and loved that too. But with changes in the health care system, many docs started selling their practices to hospitals. With this change came a ton of rules and restrictions eg. seeing pt every 15 mins, always referring to subspecialist - it was like factory work to me. So I am taking a sabbatical - which might last forever! And what am I doing on this break? Working towards receiving official certification in dog training, volunteering, protesting - life is good. And if an old patient contacts me with a problem, no problem, I take care of them on the side, for free (donations to any animal org. are very much appreciated.) Other interests - learning languages, therapeutic hypnosis, dance, and a bunch of other stuff that I'll add later!
