Bio
The precious metals industry is at its most significant crossroads in recent history. More than 40% of all platinum, and more than 80% of all palladium and rhodium are being used by the automotive industry. However, a shift is in progress that will change our world forever, a shift that is irreversible. In the not too distant future, a large number of people will drive either battery-electric or hydrogen / fuel cell electric vehicles. The big question is: which direction will the industry take: battery- or fuel cell electric? Which other areas of our lives will be affected as a result? Housing, industry, aviation and many others are all part of this change.
Both movements, electric and hydrogen, are working with huge investments and effort to present the technology of the future. If battery electric then a major draw on specialty metals and rare earths will be created to meet demand. If hydrogen electric then the industry will need platinum or palladium membranes to catalyze the chemical reaction while still needing some battery materials. So either way, the impact will be significant.
Who am I? I am Bodo Albrecht who, after 20 years with one of the largest precious metals company in the world launched BASIQ, a consulting business supporting the industry with market intelligence, security solutions and metal management tools. I am a geek, I like things that are fast, and I have a passion for precious metals.
