Bio
I'm back in Greater China for the foreseeable future after a six year hiatus sprinkled with a few stints on the mainland not lasting more than seven weeks. In that time, I practiced as an attorney in New York, then moved into legal headhunting with Empire Search Partners helping lawyers figure out their careers and companies assess their hiring needs. I also served as a speechwriter for John W.H. Denton, the CEO of Corrs Chambers Westgarth, a major law firm in Australia. My speeches for John broadly dealt with Asian engagement, which included topics ranging from education to trade to grand strategy for engaging with the region. For the prior year, I was out in San Francisco building out Empire's West Coast office, but then I was presented with an amazing opportunity to go back to Asia.
In October 2015, I took a job with BASIS Global, a U.S. education company and as the Vice President of Asia, I have been tasked with leading the charge to build international schools across the region.
The last time I lived in China for an extended period of time, I was moved to Guangzhou (广州), China where I was a Yale-China Teaching Fellow teaching at Sun Yat-sen University, known locally as 中大. I taught classes on U.S. Politics, Rhetoric, and U.S. Culture. Before that move to China, I had been living in New York where I finished up my J.D. at Columbia Law School and worked for two years as an attorney at Debevoise & Plimpton, LLP, while starting and building a legal clinic at the KIPP Academy in the Bronx. Many, many years ago I grew up in Marlboro, New Jersey, where my parents still live and is where I still consider home given that throughout my 20s and 30s I have moved to a new city at least once every four years.
