Bio
Gail Olson Chumbley is a career history instructor. Nationally recognized, Gail, after retirement, turned American History stories from the classroom to a broader audience.
Gail’s work has been honored with; the Preserve America award in 2004 co-sponsored by the White House and Gilder Lehrman Institute, the Outstanding Teacher of American History from the National Daughters of the American Revolution in 2005, and in 2008 the Idaho Humanities Council recipient for Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities. She released her two-part memoir, “River of January,” and “River of January: Figure Eight,” in 2014 and 2016.
Chumbley's works include three stage plays, "Clay" regarding the life of Senator Henry Clay, "Wolf By The Ears," an examination of the events resulting in chattel slavery, and "Peer Review" where 47 is visited by four presidents from the past. She is the co-writer of "Dancing on Air," a screenplay based on her "River" books.
A child of the Pacific Northwest, the author was born and raised in Spokane, Washington, receiving her history degree from Western Washington University in Bellingham. She and her husband live in the Rocky Mountains along the Wasatch Front.
