Bio
A true "Washingtonian" I hope I can say that after living and working right here in the city for 20 plus years. I do not have bragging rights to say I was born here, but I'm a pernament transplant from rural Wisconsin. I love this city, am trying hard to beleive in public education, but know my amazing son will be ok no matter what because (if I may toot horns for me and my husband) we take our parently jobs very seriously. I have had incredible professional experiences in my life from starting with just a suitcase and a small room from Wisconsin to getting an international education job 2 weeks after landing and not knowing a soul. It's been a great ride so far, picked up an MPA at night and went off on the Presidential campaign and then a congressional race and came back to work on the culture and climate of schools at the US Department of Education as a political appointee. Was lucky enough to be a part of the ESEA reauthorization, charter schools, and saving a program from DoD that would not be in existence today--it was Troops to Teachers and now is Transtion to Teaching. Folks we cannot possibly get all the top notch quality teachers from the best programs out there, so we have to continue to think of better ways to get quality education to our children. Was involved with charter schools as well while at the Department. But Transition to Teaching gives any mid-career professional a chance to give back to the community and reflect on what's most important perhaps after decades of burnout in________fill in the blank. I was fortunate enough to play a role after 911 in homeland security and stayed with it for over five years until Harvard Business Publishing found me. A bit of a 'start-up' but established a robust federal sector presence so feds too could receive some access to top notch leadership development and management training. Bless Andy McKafe's heart, greatest and most hip professor ever from MIT, HBP published his book Web Enterprise 2.0 and that is the term the brilliant Andy coined. If you asked me over a year ago what I thought of social media, I honestly could not have cared less. I was busy afterall building both a federal practice and brining in private sector customers. However; I think once you've been in the market looking and figuring out your next contribution, you realize then and only then (when you aren't faced with day-to-day deadlines and madness of your first job) that it is highly beleivable that social media will be three times the size of the Internet. SO much more to say, but I hope you visit me soon and often at www.info@connie'sconfidanteconsulting.com
