I always wanted to become a technical product manager and was advised by my professor to focus on software development first before trying to get into product development, so I can better understand how it's done within industry first hand from an engineer's perspective. After mastering coding from school and from past internships, I started teaching myself agile project management skills for my own mobile app startup's design life-cycle from start to finish for the fun of it. I joined the PMI.org membership online and I even recently joined the Austin local PMI chapter to branch out my network within the area to learn more about the subject and the opportunities in which it provides.
I have came to the realization after coding for about 3.5 years that I'm truly a better fit personally to collaborate and manage others while bringing out the best out of other fellow engineers. I can now better estimate my own technical projects time constraints depending on level of development each feature/project/task may require due to my technical background. In general, I'm very people friendly with an abundance years of experience of soft skills developed from my interactions on past team application projects and hackathons as "the pretend PM who codes as well"! I can even illustrate very technical code into a simple imagery for an non-technical audience to imagine as I speak. I'm pretty much open to learn anything related to the topics of product or even project management, because both subjects have some over-lapping contents from time to time. Meanwhile, at home I work on side start-up projects to practice project management hands on skills and at work I get to make modifications with the Business team of the app owner communicating which feature enhancements are necessary to implement into the project and I figure out how long to estimates each of my sprints to develop.
