Bio
Cyrus is a communicator and aspiring writer focusing primarily on the overarching subject of sustainability. He strives to promote conservation, social justice and culture. His affinity for the natural world runs deep and continues to grow with every outdoor adventure he can afford. His passion for the environment fuels his involvement with local organizations that promote ecological awareness. He interned with Greenpeace in 2012 and volunteers with other environmentally focused organizations. As a grant writing intern with a local nonprofit in the fall of 2013, Cyrus acquired the skill of grant writing while advancing the organization’s mission of establishing sustainable food systems in low-income communities.
Cyrus graduated with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Roanoke College in May of 2011, completing his senior thesis on the subject of “The Human-Nature Relationship.” In 2010, as the college’s Student Recycling Coordinator, he spearheaded the implementation of a campus-wide, volunteer-driven recycling initiative, which is still in place today. In December of 2011, he made the journey west to experience the majestic landscape of Colorado, and now resides in Denver. With his new blog (empowords.com) Cyrus intends to instigate important and timely conversations while promoting awareness of pressing and timely issues.
