Bio
Dan Slater is the director and founder of The Delphi Network, a bespoke business intelligence and relationship-building service based in Tokyo. Dan previously spent four years at The Economist Group, as director of the Economist Corporate Network. During that time, Dan increased the membership to almost double its level when he arrived, not least because he and the ECN team put on a uniquely pro-active series of events after the 3/11 tsunami.
In addition, he organized a charity event with Yoshihito Hori of Globis University the earliest post-disaster conference in Tokyo, occurring on April 28.
Dan came to Japan in 2008 after 12 years in China, where he worked as a foreign correspondent. During that time he covered the evolution of China’s economy, the rise of the private sector, and met some of China’s most famous entrepreneurs. Some of these are now dead or in jail, while others have capitalized on their early success.
Dan attended German schools in Paris and Geneva, before taking his A-levels at Shrewsbury School. He studied classical Chinese at Oxford University, International Relations at the London School of Economics and modern Chinese on a British Council scholarship at Fudan university in Shanghai. He speaks Mandarin, French and German as well as English.
