Bio
Since I first launched this site in 2017 significant changes have taken place socially and clinically. COVID-19 dramatically changed life and lifestyle. Where previously we were free to wander the streets, to eat at public restaurants, shop without concern whether the person in line behind was infected… today we “shelter in place,” wander out when necessary wearing mask and gloves. Where previously we could find comfort from weekly religious services, social groups, or nights-out with friends today the closest we get to social contact is by Zoom or other web-based “gatherings.” Where previously we could visit doctor and therapist in-office, today it is more likely that such visits take place remotely by smartphone, tablet, or computer.
This is our “new normal.” And it is likely to continue far longer than we would hope. News reports describe social isolation for singles; unaccustomed close-quarters living with family. And between employment concerns, the onset of the recently announced recession, anxiety and depression are reported widespread.
For persons still employed contact your human resource office regarding a possible employee assistance program (EAP) which may provide coverage for you and your dependents without cost. If you have health insurance you are likely covered for mental health issues, including anxiety and depression. Persons participating in Medicare and Medicaid are covered without cost to client.
Teleconferencing provides a very convenient way to seek, and receive help during these trying times. And it’s available without leaving your home and taking the unnecessary risk of traveling to, and visiting an office.
David Turner, LCSW, is a practicing clinician with 40 years experience assisting people to overcome depression and anxiety, to repair relationships seemingly in freefall. These and other problems in living are among his professional areas of specialization.
Each person is unique and there is no shortcut to happiness. Because of this treatment is tailored to the unique needs of the client. treatment options include individual, couple, and group sessions. And if employment makes weekday sessions difficult, weekend meetings are also available.
For persons unable to attend in-office sessions or preferring remote sessions, HIPPA-approved telecommunication is also an option via computer, tablet, or cell phone.
In today’s economy, with job security seemingly a receding memory and replacement employment often difficult to find, anxiety and depression with its impact on relationship and marriage are all too common, painful, and often unnecessary. Some choose alcohol and other drugs as escape convinced it helps, only to realize that they make life more painful for self and for loved ones. Intoxicants turn a bad situation into a disaster.
In recognition of his effective and innovative contribution to substance abuse treatment for ex-offenders Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) recommended David Turner for The 1996 Governor’s Award for Anti-drug Efforts in Treatment.
