Bio
As an acquisitions editor and publisher of Amphorae Publishing Group, I spend my days reading manuscripts, along with editing the novels of authors we have acquired, conversing with authors, reading, reading, and, oh, did I mention reading? I also enjoy freelance editing and helping writers bring their vision of their finished novel to fruition.
My publication and writing interests revolve around picture books, MG, and YA, although I am a sucker for a good murder mystery, and have been known to sit up late into the night to finish JUST one more chapter. I am involved with both of my local writing groups, have worked with my children's critique group for a number of years now, and have worked with fellow writers to establish the All Write Now! Writers Conference (now in its third year) in the southeast corner of Missouri to offer an affordable conference filled with workshops, literary agents, pitches, manuscript critiques, and networking opportunities for writers.
Although writing and reading has always been a favorite, gardening--and in particular growing perennials, herbs, and annuals--too, has always been a passion. Obtaining a degree in Horticulture, I worked as a greenhouse grower for nine years, expanding the business to include a garden and gift shop, and writing a gardening feature for in a monthly magazine for our local newspaper. Then my body got the best of me, and said, "Okay, lady, time to move on." That is when my other love--writing--took center stage.
While studying for my Masters in Creative Writing, I had the opportunity to intern as a publishing intern. There, my passion for editing came to fruition, and I am now fortunate to live yet another dream on my bucket list--that of a writer, editor and publisher.
I enjoy meeting writers, agents, and publishers at the conferences and workshops I attend. Since writing (and editing) is a lone-wolf production, when I have the opportunity to shed my work clothes (mostly PJs) and don more presentable attire, I thrive on meeting new people and learning, learning, learning about the industry I love so much! Even more so, I like to share what I've learned with others. My way of giving back.
