Bio
Dr. Sharifah Halimah Jaafar, a senior consultant obstetrician & gynecologist with more than 25 years of experience in managing extensive ranges of gynecological diseases and women’s health issues from simple to complex cases. Dr. Sharifah Halimah is also an accomplished and highly skilled surgeon performing core and specialized procedures in the obstetrics & gynecology field, especially in advanced laparoscopic gynecological surgery of various indications. Her expertise and fundamental interests are in treating complex gynecological problems such as stage 3/4 endometriosis, problematic fibroids, ovarian cysts, congenital genital tract abnormalities, and infertility.
She received her primary medical degree (M.D) from UKM in 1991 and completed her Master's Degree of Medicine in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from UKM in 2001. She started to learn operative laparoscopy back in the year 2003. She received hands-on training in minimally invasive surgery from many renounced laparoscopic experts locally and internationally and a hands-on advanced gynae-laparoscopic course in IRCAD Centre, Taiwan. She completed the accredited ISGE course of Bachelor in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIGS) from the International Society of Gynae-Endoscopy in 2018. She completed a diploma course in minimally invasive surgery by the University of Schleswig Holstein-Keil Germany in 2020. She is currently completing the hybrid course Master in Science of Pelvic Anatomy Landmark and Master in Surgical Management of Deeply Infiltrating Endometriosis from MIS Academy, Dubai, led by Prof Dr. Arnaud Wattiez.
She is currently a chairperson for OGSM Gynae-Endoscopic Subcommittee for 2021/2022. Apart from minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Sharifah received hands-on training in Fertility & IVF from CREST Centre, Vietnam, in 2014.
Of record, Dr. Sharifah is currently performing approximately 350 – 400 cases of advanced gynae laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery per year, including total laparoscopic hysterectomy from small to a considerable uterus mass, laparoscopic myomectomy for uterine fibroid, laparoscopic cystectomy for complex ovarian cyst, all spectrum of endometriosis surgery.
Dr. Sharifah is a life member for Obstetrics & Gynaecological Society of Malaysia (OGSM), and she is currently a chairperson for the Gynae-Endoscopy subcommittee for 2021/2022. She was also recently appointed as a Medical Advisor for the Endometriosis Society of Malaysia (MyEndosis). She is passionate about the gynae-endoscopy field and making a tremendous effort to encourage young gynecologists to learn and upgrade their skills in gynae laparoscopic surgery in Johor and Malaysia.
Dr. Sharifah has a particular interest in Aesthetic Gynaecology and has obtained a Letter of Credentialing and Privileging in Aesthetic Medicine in 2015. She is a board-certified aesthetic practitioner by the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine (AAAM, USA). She is familiar and expert with the cases she is familiar with: labiaplasty, posterior vaginal wall repair, and laser vaginal rejuvenation.
On research and publication, Dr. Sharifah Halimah has authored and contributed many reviews to Cochrane Collaboration Database in Pregnancy & Childbirth and Menstrual Disorders.
On a personal level, Dr. Sharifah is very friendly and readily approachable by her patients as she believes every woman deserves a dedicated and compassionate doctor who does not only provide quality care but also can be a friend and a confidante to their patient in time of need
