About Lisa Canning
Lisa Canning, having started her first creative venture from her dorm room at Northwestern University in 1985, has created not one but 4 multi million dollar ventures, using her creative passion as a professional clarinetist and self developed entrepreneurial skills. As a proven entrepreneur, Lisa Canning was recognized as a Top 200 Retailer in the music industry for 10 of her 20 years retailing, according to Music Trades Magazine.
Lisa Canning currently runs LisasClarinetShop.com, a 1 million dollar part time retail business from her home, producing a six figure income, after selling her other four companies in 2005. Managing over 50 employees, four retail locations and millions of dollars in inventory, Lisa has significant experience taking a venture from start up to managing double digit growth, as she created and experienced in each of her ventures, over a 17 year period.
Lisa Canning has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Business Ledger’s Award for Excellence in Business as well as receiving The National Association of Women Business Owners Business Owner of The Year Award. In 2004 Lisa Canning was recognized by President Bush as a business leader for the State of Illinois before selling her companies to begin her life as an author and speaker.
In 2007 Lisa finished her first book Build a Blue Bike: Ride Your Artistic Blues to Creative and Financial Freedom. This book was written to help creative types understand all of the components they need to creatively develop to produce the seeds of a sustainable creative venture, allowing them financial freedom and the ability to sustain the creative process throughout life.
As an adjunct faculty member at DePaul University for over 10 years, and a DePaul University School of Music Advisory Board Member, Lisa Canning, developed and taught career development to creative types- artists, helping DePaul shape what is now The Performing Arts Management Program.
Having educated, advised, consulted and taught thousands of students, employees and individuals in the development of their creative entrepreneurial and career paths, Lisa Canning is now focused on offering these same services to others who can equally benefit.
