Bio
I’m Frances. I’ve started this blog to explore my love of fibre and fibre crafts. My obsession with fibre crafts stated in 2012 when I learnt to crochet, picking up the hook felt like my hands had come home. I’ve mainly focused on amigurumi (i.e. toys) and lacework in my crochet, and recently I've become obsessed with cables. I love the architectural aspects of the craft, and the way I can bring an analytical, ‘problem solving’ mind to it.
When I decided to start up a new craft, about a year and a half later, I landed on spinning, after realising that a large part of what I love about crochet is the fibre itself; the feel, the colour, the form it takes in yarn and fabric. Going forward from now, I’m beginning to explore the wider world of fibre, particularly weaving and dyeing.
I like to keep my crafts simple; simple tools that let me make use of my hands and my creativity whenever possible. I want to do it myself, and keep it nomadic… my life is rather nomadic at the moment, and I don’t like to be separated from my craft. And in everything I value the connection to the past that hand crafts provide, doing something by hand that was done by hand by hundreds of generations before me.
