Bio
I was born of William & Sara (nee Muraco) Schmitz on August 6, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio. My mom is deceased (April 25, 2001) and my dad (age 81) has remarried to a wonderful woman named Mildred (age not disclosed, but older than dad!). I have an older brother, Bob, who is married with 3 girls. Bob is the manager of the Brown's stadium. His wife Gayle works as a tutor. I have 3 sisters who are younger than I. Judy is married to Mike and they have triplet girls (Yoy!) a son. My sister Janet and her husband Roy have 3 girls, the oldest being my god-daughter. My baby sister Barb is married to Mark & they have a set of twin girls and a boy.
I attended (with my siblings) St. Mark School in Cleveland for elementary school. I then went to High School Seminary called "Borromeo" in Wickliffe. When it closed after my sophomore year, I finished out high school at St. Joseph Seminary in Vienna, West Virgina. I attended Borromeo College, then St. Mary Seminary in Cleveland. I was ordained a Catholic priest on June 7, 1986.
My first assignment was at St. Mary of the Falls in Olmsted Falls (1986-1991). I then moved to St. John Vianney Church in Mentor (1991-1996). My third assignment was St. Joseph Church in Amherst (1996-2001). My last assignment before my present one was at St. Bernadette Church in Westlake (2001-2003). On February 1, 2003, I became Administrator of St. Ladislaus Church in Lorain, and was installed as Pastor on October 10, 2004 by Bishop Martin Amos, a friend who was my mentor in the High School Seminary.
I have 2 Jack Russell Terriers, Micah (11 years old) & Jonah (6 years old). They're my trusted & loved companions. They even tolerate my cat, Hannah (2 years old).
I also have a cousin who is a priest: Father Dan Schlegel, who is Administrator of Holy Angels Church in Bainbridge.
The coat of arms you see pictured here is one that was designed for me & published with the American College of Heraldry. The Latin motto at the bottom, “Mihi Magna Qui Potens Est” is translated, “He has done great things for me," words taken from the "Magnificat" which is Mary's prayer of praise to God.
My life thus far has been full & happy. I am extremely blessed.
