Bio
The First Year Student Outreach Project (FYSOP) offers incoming Boston University students a unique opportunity to settle into their new community by performing a week of service before classes begin.
FYSOP volunteers participate in orientation, training, and three days of direct service associated with one of nine Issue Areas: Children, Disabilities, Elders, Environment, Gender Focus, HIV/AIDS Awareness, Homelessness and Housing, Human Rights, and Hunger. Education and awareness about the various problems facing our community is one of the most important aspects of FYSOP.
Participants are able to make new and long-lasting friendships through their interactions with student staff leaders and over 550 other first-year students who are dedicated to service. The hours of service FYSOP volunteers contribute make an immediate and significant impact on the community, and also give volunteers unique opportunities to create friendships through service. In previous years, FYSOP volunteers have completed over 16,000 hours of service in the Greater Boston Area.
