Bio
I am married to the love of my life, Ed Hines, a retired Distinguished Professor at Illinois State University. We have two children, Laurie who is married to Tim Ackermann, both are attorneys and live in Grapevine, TX with their 3 daughters, Signy, Roslyn, and Liesl. Neal is married to Carla Merkow, is a Marine Sediment Scientist and they live in Bellevue WA near Seattle.
Ed and I met while auditioning for the Mendelssohn Choir in PIttsburgh, PA and they are the chorus that sings with the Pittsburgh symphony. We became engaged right before we performed Beethoven's 9th! We continue to sing -- now in the Illinois State University Civic Chorale that just celebrated their 50 year anniversary which Ed and I helped plan, a magnificent evening. A Gala!
We have gardens, boy do we have gardens! An asparagus patch, a vegetable garden with heirloom tomatoes and basil and the patio garden full of pollinators to attract Monarch butterflies and hummingbirds, bees, and other insects. Oh I almost forgot, my area of expertise is herbs -- we have every herb imaginable.
In 2003 I went through the Master Gardener class and remain active although I would rather call myself a neurotic gardener.
The gardens would be impossible to maintain if it were not a combined effort between the two of us. Although as we get older, Kevin Neisen, helps out. Ed likes mowing the lawn with his John Deere, the closest he will get to being in the Indianapolis 500.
We built this house, a large ranch, to accommodate dear Grandma Mimi who lived with us for 4 years. What a joy having her here.
