Bio
I am on a crusade to develop a Christian support group and network for hard of hearing people. My mission in life is to find and create a hearing accessible church that would help hard of hearing people see, hear and understand everything.
I was born hard of hearing. Sign language is not an option for me because I can still hear some and speak. I do not fit into the hearing world, because I struggle to follow conversations or keep up with what was going on around me. Where can I go to enjoy full freedom of communication without being put to shame whenever I misunderstand something?
It became obvious to me that someone needs to develop a form of communication just for hard of hearing people. Having a sign interpreter or an FM device in one specific room or location is not considered total hearing accessibility for hard of hearing people.
We need a method of communication that could be implemented and practiced at all times everywhere. This method can be used in the home, workplace, hospitals, schools and the church.
My wife, Cathy and I began to explore the possibility of using a church to start a ministry to hard of hearing. After visiting over 450 churches we were invited to start such a work in Ridgeview Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN.
In 2007 we founded the Lip Reading Academy for hard of hearing people. In 2009 we began to organize a non-profit mission called, Let My People Hear, Inc. In 2010, we conducted the first Hearing Loss Rehab Institute. In 2011, we are starting for the first time a “Total Hearing Accessible Church.”
The purpose of this ministry is to …
• To give encouragement to those who suffer hearing loss
• To pray for one another
• To teach and train hard of hearing to deal with their disability
• To research for new and better methods of communication
• To explore various hearing assistive devices and technology
• To establish support groups or chapters in local churches
• To share the love of Christ and His Gospel
