Bio
I'm born in Zimbabwe (1959) and lived the first part of my life there. After a long stretch at UCT (University of Cape Town), I came out with a new type of hangover, now having to fact the reality of life.
This time began in Johannesburg where I met my future wife, Fiona, and then moved to Cape Town after a couple of years. There, I want back to school and got an MBA which motivated me to start a restaurant but not before tying the knot. Fiona, a dietitian, did not like the restaurant, so I ran it myself for the next 6 years (although she did like to count what money there was).
I also continued to work at Plessey (subsequently Tellumat). After a couple of years Lauren, our daughter came along (1995) and not long after that, we returned to Joburg (for our sins).
Joburg was hard work. Although I got a job as General Manager of a small media company and Fiona started a private practice, interest rates were about 25% and money was really short. We did, however find some time to travel and also to bring our son, Guy into the world in 1998.
We lasted there a few years before I was offered a post working in Chad (that was in 2000). Although I only worked there for just under 2 years, this would have a significant effect on our future.
We returned to Cape Town where Fiona found a stable job with UCT and I tried various things, the most successful of which was a guest house in Hout Bay. That lasted until 2015 when this story starts.
This is a pretty personal blog, so you may be bored by the details, but at my age I also need to use it to keep up with what's been going on in our lives!!
