Bio
Accomplished, versatile writer/researcher – creating an encore career offering workshops specializing in fiction and digital journalism. Teaching credits include seminars presented at the UT-Austin, Division of Continuing Education, Jung Society of Austin, and the Writers’ League of Texas. She earned a Certificate in Digital Journalism in 2011.
She is retired from an outdoor career that included writing about Texas history, Texas travel, historical archeology and Texas state parks. Writing credits include twelve years publishing “The Passport Journal,” a quarterly travel magazine for members of the Texas Conservation Passport program [Texas Parks & Wildlife Department]. Other writing credits include the script for an award winning one-act play, “Putting Teacher Brown to Rest,” and the script for a PBS documentary, “Independence,” on the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence.
Emily’s writing and editing experience began in 1972 as Editor for the Texas Archeological Survey [UT-Austin]; she is author of multiple publications in archeology, socioeconomic impact assessment, oral history. She has published popular magazine articles on Texas history and travel topics. Additional areas of expertise include archeological field work, research in anthropological methods, field work in environmental impact assessment, production of outdoor events for state parks and managing the Texas Conservation Passport Program which had as many as 123,230 members. Emily has a Master’s Degree of Art's from the University of Texas at Austin.
