Bio
Horton Humble lives and works all over the world. Born and raised in New Orleans and an avid traveler since the 90's, Humble began painting professionally in 2005 after completing a series of writing fellowships. In his previous New Orleans showings Debris and By Any Means Necessary: The Hard Eight, he painted on wood salvaged from Katrina flood sights. In 2008, he traveled to Africa for a year to collect material for his newest series of pieces.
Painted on vibrant Kitenges, the colorful paintings presented in this show capture the people and the zeitgeist of Humble's voyage. Each piece of cloth has been nurtured by hundreds of hours of travel in at least 9 different countries, in addition to the artist's loyalty to rich and abundant detail. Humble continues to be prolific in his work and is in the process of planning his next international trip.
