Bio
I am not an activist but I do love sharing what I have learned. I’m the type of person who hears a person with laryngitis and simply cannot stop myself from telling them my favorite remedy. I’ve even done this with telephone solicitors, I really can’t help myself. If I’m hiking and see a stranger that appears to be getting sunburned, I’ll mention it and offer some sunscreen. I share because I care. I cannot mind my own business, I’ve tried but I am not wired that way.
The earth is my home, and everyone and thing is part of my community and family, so I treat them that way.
For over 25 years, I have described myself as a naturalist and forager. I love learning what’s out there, how everything interacts and what I can eat or what I can use for healing. I am not a farmer, I married a farmer. I know it’s a loosing battle to try to manage nature. But that said, I thank my lucky stars that there are people who are passionate enough to invest their time, money, and energy to grow our food. Thank goodness for those individuals, because I am not one of them.
I just discovered recently that I have been an herbalist for over 25 years too. I went to a talk by 7 Song, the Director of Northeast School of Botanical Medicine (a great teacher if you ever have the chance, go see him, he has so much to teach you), who clearly stated, “that if you use plants as a primary tool for health – you’re an herbalist.” I love using herbs and food to heal others and myself, therefore I’m an herbalist.
I am very conservative, I try never to take more than I need and try my best to reduce my burden on the earth. My goal is to leave this planet in better shape than when I arrived in 1965. Don’t get me wrong – I love modern conveniences; I’m not a Luddite though I do try to be reasonable with the earth’s resources. I look for products that have minimal negative impact when using them.
I spent over 25 years, working at not-for-profit agencies so my finances have never been abundant. This has allowed me to be very creative with obtaining my goals. I love traveling and exploring this wonderful world, eating tasty wholesome foods, reducing the chemicals used in my home, raising my son to respect himself and the world he lives in and sharing the tricks to getting what I want in reasonable and affordable ways.
