I’m a middle aged woman with several impairments. (Read: “disabilities” if you’re in the US.) I live in Denver, where I fancy that the big beautiful mountains just to the west of me are there to watch my back. Separate from those impairments, I’m a fat broad. I have an Irish temper (Imagine thinking your ancestors were only Scots or Britons or Swedes, and then through research discovering that you had some Irish too. Now people are more comfortable with my bursts of indignation because they buy into the stereotype…)
My master’s degree (MLS) ended up being rather useless in a direct fashion but it does mean I’m a good researcher.
I’ve been a grocery clerk, a singer, an actor,a bill collector, a graduate student of History, a librarian of sorts, a preacher’s wife, an office toad, a law student, as well as an unpublished writer,and am presently a cubicle dweller doing telephone customer service, as well as an informal advocate/coach for other persons with disabilities, particularly women with disabilities.
This place will be more organized I suppose than my last spot…I intend to continue personal anecdotes about my life and my family…also will be talking about my personal experience of disability…
And, broader disability issues too, although there’s many more schooled and powerful about this than I am.
Lastly, I love some pop culture, arts, film so I’ll bring those in…[but don’t expect either celebrity gossip or reality shows, I hate that *****]
And, politics, having become newly politically driven after the beginning of the war, and the 04 elections.
In other words: I’m smart, I’m watching and I won’t shut up.
