Bio
Brad Hessel is an investment advisor registered with the state of North Carolina (USA). With a background in history and simulation design, he worked in information services for First Boston and Credit Suisse in the 80s and 90s and ultimately moved into the knowledge management field. He has managed funds for family and friends informally for thirty years. In 2003, he started a Marketocracy fund focused on implementing a macro strategy which has posted a compounded annual growth rate of 17.28% through the first three years of operation as compared to the S&P 500 index CAGR of 9.26% over the same time frame (7 Nov 03 open to 6 Nov 06 close). The Intelledgement model portfolio was launched 3 Jan 07 and through 30 Jun 11 was up 29% as compared to -7% for the S&P 500 over the same time frame.
“We started Intelledgement to have a positive impact on people’s lives. There are lots of profitable investment strategies,” states Hessel. “But we employ a macro strategy approach because in addition to superior long-term returns, it affords insight with respect to how geopolitical events and technological innovations may impact the lives of our clients, both financially and otherwise. Our prime objective is to hedge the capital under management to reduce the chances of adverse impacts from disruptive events, if not actively profit from them. We also believe that our focus on macro-level events can afford our clients the opportunity to foresee—and hopefully avoid—other effects such disruptive events may have on their lives.”
